I was introduced to Pilates in
1993 out of desperation. I was born with a congenital narrowing
of the spine
and managed chronic pain from the time I was 18 years old. Years
later, I suffered a severely herniated disc from a mountain bike accident. In follow up treatment, I
was referred to a trainer specializing in the Pilates Method. The results were immediate, dramatic and long
lasting, allowing me to return to the joy of physical movement I
experienced in my early youth. |
|
Utilizing Pilates to maintain the strength
and stability of my body's core (the area of the torso between
the ribs and hips), I postponed inevitable surgery for more than
11 years. I recovered quickly and healed from the trauma while
continuing to use Pilates and its supportive
modifications.

"Pilates
is a process which invites a lifelong journey of health and
well-being, allowing you to rediscover the pleasure of moving in
a smoothly functioning body that will allow you to reach your
full potential, now and for a lifetime." |
|
I was diagnosed and
treated for thyroid cancer two years later, undergoing
surgery for removal of my thyroid gland
and follow-up treatment using radiation.
The joy and exhilaration I came to know from 14 years of
moving in a uniformly developed and supportive body
became a renewed and deeply personal calling. Pilates encouraged me to live
with the patience,
persistence, and perseverance necessary to recreate the mind/body/spirit connection
that offers vitality to anyone willing to walk its path. A
clean bill of health and a body now stronger
from the inside out, I continue with the journey of the Pilates
Method – both as teacher/trainer and as a student.
We invite
you to join us in experiencing the profound
results offered by this highly unique and practical form
of body conditioning. Regardless of your level of fitness or
physical abilities
(from
rehabilitation to elite athlete), the Pilates Method invites a lifelong journey of health and
well-being.

Andrea Martone,
Certified Pilates
Instructor,
Mat Class Instructor
Licensed Massage Therapist |
|
I
first studied human movement and anatomy at the Myotherapy
College of Salt Lake City, Utah, and attained certification as a
massage therapist in 2001. After six years of practicing
Pilates, I was movtivated to complete The Pilates Center's
986-hour teacher training program in Boulder Colorado, in 2006.
At the Center, I received comprehensive training in all of the
Classic Pilates movements, both on the mat and on the full array
of Pilates apparatus as Joseph Pilates originally intended his
Method. Pilates has enriched all aspects of my life, and I
believe it is one of the most valuable tools and fitness
training techniques available for assisting in the overall
health and well-being of the body.
