I
was introduced to Pilates in 1993 out of
desperation, born with a congenital narrowing of the spine and
managing chronic pain from the time I was 18 years old. Years
later, I suffered a severely herniated disc and was referred to
a trainer utilizing aspects of the Pilates Method as part of my
treatment. The results and
benefits
were immediate, dramatic and long lasting. I returned to the joy
of physical movement born in my early youth.
Transitioning to the
Classical Pilates Method
and completing comprehensive teacher certification at
The
Pilates Center
in Boulder, Colorado, I regained the necessary strength and
stability of my body's core (the area of the torso between the
ribs and hips,
hamstrings, inner thighs, pelvic floor, and deep gluteals),
while developing training skills for clients seeking the same. Targeting the muscles closest to the spine,
I
eliminated my chronic pain, postponing inevitable spine surgery
for more than 11 years. Pilates served me both pre and
post-operatively, allowing me to recover quickly while using Pilates'
supportive and safe modifications. |

I was
diagnosed and successfully treated for thyroid cancer
two years later. The joy and exhilaration from more than
15 years
of moving in a uniformly developed and balanced body
became a renewed and deeply personal calling. Pilates
allowed me to continue mind-body training throughout this
difficult time, using its breath and relaxation
techniques to release areas of deep
tension and
muscular holding that built up during treatment. A clean

" Kimberly introduced me to Pilates.
Precisely, rigorously, she
coached, cajoled and instructed. Her talent is
natural, her dedication
tremendous. I learned about my body, my
posture, my movement patterns not just when
training, but in everyday life!
She is an exceptional Pilates trainer."
