“Pilates is for men! "
“I am a
cancer survivor and have herniated disks in my spine.
My doctor recommended Pilates to rehabilitate my core
abdominal muscles, which support the spine, after
surgery. Men’s quadriceps, hamstrings and lower backs
are typically much tighter than women’s. I figured that
out while trying mat classes and small group workouts at
various studios. I felt like just another ‘big beginner
guy’, rolling around on a mat trying to keep with up
with a bunch of women. I also discovered through the
process that all Pilates' classes are not created
equal. There is extensive training required in
order for one to be a Classical Pilates instructor,
teaching the Method as it has been passed down from
Joseph Pilates himself. So I began the search for a
traditionally trained, Certified Pilates Instructor. I
found Kimberly McKnight of Mind’s Eye Movement.
Kimberly understands the issues with men’s muscle
groups. She has been patient and diligent with me in my
recovery process. My range of motion, flexibility, and
core strength is improving. Kimberly’s focus on
teaching the mind-body connection has been invaluable to
me. She is teaching me to unwind years of incorrectly
learned movement patterns that have hindered my health
and strength. I am learning to reconnect my mind with
movement.
I would recommend
Kimberly to anyone who is interested in Pilates or for
those whom have had experience and are seeking to
advance to a higher level. Her attentiveness to your
personal situation and movement patterns allows her to
design a program just for you. My time and money have
been well spent. Kimberly has given me tools and
methods that I will use for life."
